Biography

Dr.  Carola Emkow (Ph.D.) works on the Indigenous languages and cultures of Papua New Guinea as well as of South and Central America. She holds a Ph.D. for language description in linguistics. She carries out research on the:

  • Bena Bena language and culture living in eastern highlands of Papua New Guinea
  • Kaqchikel and K’iche’ languages and cultures of highland Guatemala
  • Yucatec language and culture of lowland Mexico
  • Quechua language and culture of highland Bolivia (Andes)

She is particularly interested in Indigenous languages as tools for preserving traditional knowledge as well as reflectors of human concepts. Her knowledge of these languages allow her to unravel the universes as they unfold for these groups.
