Biography —
Shé:kon/ Greetings!
I’m Angelina Henhawk, I’m an enrolled member of the Saint Regis Mohawk Reservation at Akwesasne and I am Snapping Turtle Clan. I was born and raised in Buffalo, NY and I come from a big matriarchal family. The women in my life continue to teach me everything on how to be a strong Kanyen’kehà:ka (Mohawk) woman, and because of them and their impact I pursued higher education.
I began my undergraduate degree at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke in American Indian Studies. Where I spent a lot of time learning about the importance of Indigenous representation and the influence that cinema and media have on Indigenous identities. Besides from my own studies, I was a part of the Native American Student Organization (NASO) at Pembroke and crossed with the Beta Chapter of Alpha Pi Omega Sorority in the Spring of 2022. I was also awarded American Indian Student of the Year in 2024.
As I continue my journey of higher education here at the University of Kansas I will be working as a graduate research assistant (GRA) for Dr. Alex Red Corn and I’ll also be working with Dr. Melissa Green-Blye on Good Morning Indian Country.
