Biography

Kip Perry is a History Ph.D. candidate and Indigenous Studies certificate student studying the interchange of knowledges and sciences in Mexico from the late 17th to 19th centuries. They are interested in the role of Indigenous, Creole and Spanish sciences in the development of national identity, castes and racialization under colonial regimes. 

Kip’s M.A. focused on the history of science and colonization in the Atlantic by way of the racial taxonomies constructed in the 18th-century Mexican casta painting genre.
